Abstract

Note: This abstract is the same as the one given on the LabAutomation2005 page.

Test results in a laboratory are often manually documented and transferred into electronic systems afterwards. By combining the current best available technology for remote enterprise environment access WebServices and a mobile client it is possible to bring it down to one step. The direct acquisition of data not only leads to this reduction of work load, but also to more security as a result of the consequential comparism with deposited specifications.

A WLAN and PDA- based solution using the SAP Web Application server was developed upon an existing SAP/QM system. The solution offers additional user comfort with lookups on related information, which in turn leads to more security. For example, an instruction for a given action can be displayed on user request.

Result submission is triggered by reading a sample barcode with the scanner integrated in the PDA. Depending on the read identification the correct inspection plan is fetched and presented to the user.
