To enjoy my ipod in my Mazda 626, i needed a car connector. So I visited my local Mac store and bought a PodGear CarDock:

The installation is easy - all you have to do is to plug it into the cigarette lighter and to connect it to your car radios line-out. But the music quality is bad, all songs sound dull. Plus it doesn't really look good - bulky.
A friend a mine, Thomas, couldn't stand it and modified the whole thing.

First he cut a hole in the plastic box of the 626 arm-rest.

Then he soldered a cut cinch cable (stereo) to the left & right audio output of the cardock circuit board. This was easy thanks to tObys iPod dock pin assignment description (german only).

Now the screwed both cardock parts. Ok he also used a little bit of hot-glue.

Time to place the plasic box back into the arm-rest.

The bottom line.

Without the ipod. Remember: Wash your fingers or the felt gets diry.
